Summary
The Boston City Council met on February 25, 2026 under Council President Liz Breadon. The meeting featured a presentation recognizing the Boston Black Men and Boys Commission for the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, and the Council passed a solar recommissioning grant (Docket 0377), a firefighter age waiver for Richard Scamacca (Docket 0390), and numerous resolutions including Women's History Month, Rev. Jesse Jackson Day, Dominican Independence Day, Read Across America Day, fare-free bus funding, the Ghana independence recognition, and the PROTECT Act. A major debate occurred over Docket 0402, Councilor Culpepper's Blue Hill Avenue hearing order, when Culpepper appealed the chair's referral to the Planning, Development and Transportation Committee, arguing it belonged in the Civil Rights Committee; the appeal failed 6-7 and the docket stayed in planning. Other items introduced included the Boston Emergency Relief Fund ordinance (Docket 0387) and a two-part Zoning Board of Appeals reform package (Dockets 0388-0389). A section 17F request on immigration detainers (Docket 0435) failed 9-4, and MSBA school repair appropriations (Dockets 0128-0129) passed on second reading.
